    EmJ Hova (she/her) lives in New York and is originally from Minnesota. EmJ (pronounced em-JAY) has been tutoring private clients since 2013 and began her business in 2019.

    With a bachelors degree in theater and a minor in mathematics, EmJ blends the world of academics and creative arts. She recognizes the unique learning styles of each student and customizes a plan that inspires each to enjoy learning while excelling academically. It is her goal to provide students the tools they need in order to approach their schoolwork with confidence and curiosity.

    She lives in Queens with her husband and two kids. She spends her free time reading, cooking, and writing. References available upon request.

  • Liz

    Math/Spanish

    Liz (she/her) grew up just outside of the Atlanta area. She attended Georgia College and State University where she obtained a degree in mathematics and a minor in Spanish. She went on to attend Georgia State University and received her master’s in teaching.

    For 12 years Liz taught high school math and loved building relationships with her students. She left the classroom three years ago to stay home and raise her two young boys. She still wanted to remain part of students’ academic success, so continued to work as a private math tutor.

    Liz believes anyone can be good at math! She loves helping her students achieve their goals.

    In her spare time Liz enjoys playing tennis, traveling, and spending time with her husband, two boys, and three cats.

  • Ari

    Test Prep (SAT, ACT, SHSAT, TACHS, ISEE, etc.)

    Hailing from Milwaukee, WI, Ari graduated (with honors!) from Northwestern University, where he double majored in Political Science and Theatre. After a year in Louisville after undergrad, he found his way to New York, where he started his tutoring career in 2016 and never looked back.

    Ari has worked with such test prep companies as Kaplan, Bee Tutored, TestTakers, and A-List Tutoring. Since 2019, he has worked as a freelance tutor specializing in test prep for SHSAT / ISEE, SAT, and ACT, as well as essay-writing.

    Outside of tutoring, Ari recently completed his MFA in Film with a focus in Screenwriting from Columbia University. Other accolades include serving as Student Council President in high school, as well as captaining his coed Sunday league soccer team.

  • Chelsea

    General K-12/Executive Functioning/Test Prep

    Chelsea Cylinder is a Philadelphia-based tutor, who has been teaching for 14 years. She has taught ages 2-17. Chelsea holds a B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude with Honors. Her specialty subjects include Math, Spanish, English/Writing, Test Prep (especially SAT, ACT, SSAT, ISEE, and PSAT), organizational skills, public speaking, interviews, and more. Chelsea also has experience working with students with ADHD, Autism, and Dyslexia.

    Outside of academics, Chelsea works as an actress, singer, theatre teaching artist, and producer. She is the Co-Founder and Artistic Director of Pier Players Theatre Company in Philadelphia. Her theatre and tutoring work collided when she produced and performed in a show called The Angry Grammarian, a musical romantic comedy about 2 people who are obsessed with grammar!

    Chelsea loves being able to provide personalized learning for her students and really help them get the help that they need. These subjects are hard to learn for the first time; she understands that, and she really enjoys being one of the people responsible for helping them feel less stuck. It is one of her favorite parts about teaching. Chelsea always brings an abundance of enthusiasm, a warm personality, a love of teaching, and a focused and positive work ethic to all of her sessions. She is very excited to meet new students and looks forward to creating an educational, productive, nurturing, and also fun, learning environment.

  • Geo

    Test Prep/Executive Functioning/K-12

    Geo Kester has spent the past six years as a professional tutor. They specialize in preparing students for the SAT, the ACT, high school admissions tests (ISEE, SHSAT, TACHS, SSAT, and HCHS), AP Tests, subject tests, and high school/college admissions. Geo utilizes a neurodiverse-affirming approach to tutoring, and aims to meet students where they are in their process. They are a graduate of NYU, where they had a dual focus of Drama and Mathematics. 

  • Allie

    Science

    Allie Slofkiss (she/her) is a NJ-based tutor with over six years of professional experience helping students excel academically.

    Allie graduated summa cum laude from Bucknell University with a Bachelor of Science in biology on the pre-medical track. Her academic strengths are rooted in natural and sciences--particularly chemistry, biology, and biophysics--but she also brings a versatile background that allows her to support students across subject disciplines. Allie prides herself on her ability to quickly identify a student’s unique learning style and customize lessons that foster understanding, enthusiasm, and long-term success. Allie's mission is not just to help students master material for their next test or assignment, but to provide them with the tools and strategies to thrive academically and professionally for many years to come.

    Outside of tutoring, Allie can be found singing at her local church, thrift-flipping vintage clothing from local boutiques, and spending time on the golf course with her fiancé and labradoodle, Forest.

  • Evie Johnson

    English/History

    Evie (She/Her) has worked in classrooms with students from Pre-K to 8th grade for nearly a decade. As a now recent graduate from Stanford University, she holds a BA in American Studies, with an emphasis in History, Art History, Film Studies and Literature.  Evie speaks fluent Spanish, and has an extensive background in theater studies (especially Shakespeare!) She is passionate about the humanities, and eager to share her love for learning with every student. 

     

    She currently resides in Los Angeles, with her two cats Juno and Fionn. Outside of tutoring, Evie works an actor in film and TV. She is an avid reader, film lover, and is always up for a trip to the beach!
